I've been researching and really bad at understanding government,political,ect stuff. So please balm me out.
1) He believed in a competent central government. He took a nationalist position while supporting the social and economic interests of the southern states. The administration to thus be controlled by the wealthy upper classes.
2) His political philosophy was typical of his class. He advocated wealth as a essence for representation. He believed that those with wealth and social standing, men with the greatest stake in society, had the duty to govern. John Rutledge faithfully mirrored the beliefs and attitudes of the southern cache-pot aristocracy. He subscribed to the idea of an ordered society that guaranteed the rights and privileges of men of property.
3) He believed in poll of the President by Congress, and election of Congress by state legislatures. He felt that if representation was determined by population, then the slaves should be counted even though they had no voting rights, since women also had no voting rights and were counted. It was argued that only unencumbered women should be counted. His intention was to gain more power for the southern states. He had to compromise causing him to state, "Is it not improve that I should sacrifice one prized opinion than that all of us should sacrifice everything we might otherwise gain?"
4) He amassed a fortune in plantations and slaves. He believed in a honest unrestricted slave trade.
5) He believed that government was a contract between the people and their sovereign and that both had inalienable rights that could not be abridged by an act of Parliament.

John Rutledge was born on 17 September 1739 in Charles Towne, SC John and Sarah Rutledge. He was the eldest of seven children and was illuminated by his predecessor as a descendant of a child.
